Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a CPAP and an APAP machine?

A CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine delivers one constant, fixed pressure setting all night. An APAP (Auto-Adjusting) machine uses an algorithm to monitor your breathing and automatically fluctuates the pressure to match your needs throughout the night.

Which device is better for me?

Your physician will determine whether you need a fixed CPAP or an APAP based on your sleep study results. APAP machines are often preferred for those whose needs change throughout the night (e.g., due to sleep position or alcohol consumption).

What are the common pain points for new users?

New users often struggle with initial pressure intolerance ("too much air"), mask leaks, dry mouth, and noise. Modern devices address these with features like "Ramp" settings, humidification, and advanced sound-dampening motors.

What is "Ramp" or "SmartRamp"?

This feature allows you to start the machine at a lower, more comfortable pressure while you are falling asleep, slowly ramping up to your prescribed pressure once it detects you have fallen asleep.

How do I know if my machine is working correctly?

Most modern machines feature "Therapy Compliance" data. You can view your usage hours, mask leak seals, and sleep events directly on the device’s screen or through a connected smartphone app.

Do I need to buy a separate humidifier?

Most of our modern CPAP and APAP machines come with an integrated, heated humidifier as part of the base unit or as a simple modular add-on.

Are these machines portable?

Yes. While they are designed as home units, they are compact and lightweight. For frequent travel, we also offer specific "Travel CPAP" units that are even smaller.

Can I change my own pressure settings?

No. Therapy settings are medical prescriptions. You should never adjust your pressure settings without consulting your physician, as incorrect settings can make therapy ineffective.

How often should I clean my device?

Wipe down the device exterior with a damp cloth weekly. More importantly, change your air filters as directed by the manufacturer (usually monthly) to protect the motor and ensure clean air intake.

How long do these devices typically last?

High-quality CPAP and APAP devices are designed for long-term use. With proper maintenance and regular filter changes, most machines provide optimal performance for 3 to 5 years.
